There’s nothing like a good face scrub, but finding a good one sometimes can be hard. It’s challenging, to say the least, to find just the right mix of scrub ingredients. One that is not overly abrasive or one that is so soft you can barely feel the scrub action. This is where creativity and the love of crafting meet. I often switch up my scrub depending on what I am looking for (different scent, different exfoliant, etc.), but I always come back to this basic recipe that for me is perfect.
Cornmeal Oat Face Scrub
This recipe doubles as a face mask. It is the perfect blend of scrub and skin loving ingredients and will leave your skin velvety smooth. This recipe makes enough for three scrubs/masks.
2 Tbsp powdered oatmeal
1 Tbsp cornmeal
½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp kelp powder
1 tsp powdered calendula
1 Tbsp water ( oily skin), milk (normal skin) or cream (dry skin)
Essential oils (optional)
Add powdered oatmeal, cornmeal, baking soda, kelp powder and powdered calendula to a small bowl and mix well with wire whisk or fork until combined. Place in tight fitting covered container in a cool, dry place until ready for use.
Combine 1 Tbsp of with 1 Tbsp of water, milk or cream and stir to combine. I like the “raw” smell of the oats and cornmeal, however, if desired add 3-4 drops of essential oil at this point and allow to sit for one minute to thicken. If too thick, add a few drops of liquid at a time to thin out. If too thin, sprinkle in a bit more powdered oatmeal. Apply to face then gently rub in a circular motion for 1-2 minutes. Rinse well then remove any remaining residue with toner or witch hazel. Finish off with facial serum and/or moisturizer. To use as a mask, after face massage, leave on for 15-minutes.
